Greeley Philharmonic Highlights Music and Mental Health on May 17th
Greeley, CO – Experience the powerful connection between music and mental health with the Greeley Philharmonic as they present their season finale performance: “A Human Experience” on Saturday, May 17th.
Date: Saturday, May 17th, 2025
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Union Colony Civic Center 701 10th Ave, Greeley, CO 80631
Life for us all is filled with moments of great joy, sadness, and every emotion in between. “A Human Experience” explores this vast spectrum through the premiere of Composer-in-Residence Dylan Fixmer’s Concerto for Electric Cello - a three movement work for solo electric cello and symphony orchestra commissioned for GPO Principal cellist Becky Kutz Osterberg. This new work is based on Becky's experiences navigating lifelong depression and depicts the complexity and characteristics that embody her emotional journey. Drawing from Becky's first-hand experiences and scientific research on mental illness and trauma psychology, this piece is dedicated to those facing these challenges, shedding light on the often silent agony of navigating mental health issues. Other musical highlights rounding out this journey will be Mozart’s cleverly comedic Cosí fan tutte Overture, Anna Clyne’s jovial “Masquerade,” and Rachmaninoff’s nostalgic Symphonic Dances.
Centennial Area Health Education Center’s “Be Mindful” exhibit will be in the lobby of the Union Colony Civic Center during the concert. Attendees are invited to explore the panels for information and resources. Additionally, North Range Behavioral Health staff will be available to speak with.
Limited complimentary tickets will be provided by the High Plains Library District to the performance on May 17th, 2025. Attend an event at the Linc library to receive a promotional code used on the Greeley Philharmonic website.
