Dr. Kurt Melendy is the Lecturer of Classical Double Bass at the University of Wyoming. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Colorado Boulder and his Master of Music in Performance and Chamber Music from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Melendy serves on the Executive Board of Directors of the International Society of Bassists (and hosts its online Center Stage Series, which features conversations with bassists on artistry, pedagogy, and the evolving role of the instrument). He has performed throughout the United States and internationally with ensembles including The Orchestra of the Americas, Sphere Ensemble, and Opera Colorado, and at festivals such as the Colorado College Summer Music Festival and California Music Festival.

His research explores body use and management in double bass performance, with an ongoing focus on injury prevention and sustainable musicianship. He is also pursuing certification in Body Mapping through the Association for Body Mapping Education to further his work helping bassists develop greater physical awareness, freedom, and longevity in their playing. His professional interests bridge performance, pedagogy, and wellness, with the goal of supporting the next generation of musicians both on stage and in the classroom.

Dr. Melendy performs on a double bass made by Daniel Hachez.
